Next time you’re in the neighborhood, stop by to see the new residents on our property!

Ducks

This Mallard couple has been showing up every spring for the last couple of years and hanging out in, what I have named, "The Hyatt Wetlands" (a portion of our parking lot where the drain has ceased to work and is in the shadow of our old truck).

The female appears to have an injury to one of her legs, so don’t get too close. I tend to just quack at them a few times as I head into work. Lisa likes to shout: "DUCKY DUCKY DUCKY!"

We’re all special people here at John S. Hyatt’s!

New News

Valentine’s Day, Easter & St. Patrick’s Day are all coming up. Once again, Apollo has released flyers with gobo and color suggestions.

Apollo just came out with a new method of putting gel onto flourescent tubes. More info on the new GelWraps can be found on their website.

USHIO is now shipping their new SPH575 lamp. This lamp was designed to replace the GLC & FLK lamps. The color temperature is 3250°K compared to 3200°K for the GLC & FLK, but with a new filament design, USHIO says that the lumen output is 20% higher.

ETC has a new "mini-site" for their Ion console. The console is smaller companion to the Eos. Built on the same software, the size is more compact, the banks of faders have been removed, and the built-in touchscreens are also gone. However, there are now a series of Universal Fader Wings for the Ion and Congo Jr. that attach via USB, and the Ion can also support external touchscreen monitors.

As a note: ETC is beginning to phase out the Express and Expression lines as well as Emphasis. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY WILL NOT SUPPORT THOSE PRODUCTS! ETC is exeptional when it comes to supporting legacy products. That doesn’t mean that you can’t still buy them. ETC will keep making them as long as there’s demand and the parts are available.

ETC has also released a beta version of SmartSoft. SmartSoft lets users view, edit and build show data for SmartFade ML. You just have to register on their web forums to download it.

Shure has an excellent article on their website regarding myths about audio gear.

Rosco’s Premiere is an advanced, water-borne urethane coating providing an excellent solution for sealing and protecting painted finishes, floors and high-traffic surfaces.

This new material is exceedingly flexible and versatile. It can be used in glazing applications, faux finishes or, with a little imagination, as a textured top coat. Of course, the basic use of Rosco’s Premiere Clear is as a protective coating, providing a super-hard durable finish. It is available in Flat, Satin or Gloss finishes. More info can be found on their website.

New Vendors, New Gear, New Info!

We’ve recently added some new vendors to our line card!

I’m very excited, particularly, about ProCo Sound. ProCo is based in Kalamazoo, MI and is one of the leading manufacturers of audio cables. Check out their website. They’ve got everything!

Also new is Mackie! Speakers, mixers, recording gear…

In this month’s newsletter from City Theatrical, they had a nice background article on why their fixture irises are the best. Good pictures of the manufacturing process, too. Here’s a link to the article.

City Theatrical also announced yesterday that they have acquired all designs and patents for Candle Lite Unlimited, for which they have been the exclusive distributor since the beginning. With this aquisition they plan on adding improvements and new technologies to these great flicker candles.

Our sales rep from Rosco stopped by for a quick visit last week. He brought along the Rosco X-Effects projector, which has now been replaced by the X24 X-Effects projector. It’s a little difficult to describe what it does, so take a look at the video clips on their website.

We have our Apollo Right Arm and ETC SmartFade ML set up in our Grand Rapids demo room. We will be part of our rental inventory once we’ve finished showing them off. If you haven’t seen them, make arrangements to stop by! The SmartFade ML is a great little moving light console, and the Right Arm is smooth as silk.
